Directional VentsI have some 3D printed directional vents for sale at £40 per pair with a 25% discount for club members when collected from an event/club night. Just let me know beforehand if you want some as it takes around 6 hours to print a pair. These replace the defender under dash vent outlets and allow you to...

Facebook page updateFor those that do Facebook, there have been some changes to our presence which means we now have a Facebook group but we also have a Facebook page as well. I'm yet to figure out what the pros and cons are for this but for the moment there is some overlap and part of the new website design (I know, i...
Account Change EmailsYou may receive emails from the club's web site regarding your account/password having changed. If this email mentions Wordpress then it is from the development site, not the live club site and is a result of some changes I've made in the new site to harden up the security used to encrypt the passwo...
Re: TYRESI'm undecided on the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro, they'll probably last for a while but having tried them on the front of mine with Yokohama Geolander on the back, I felt the front end was letting me down more than the back end on Sunday in the mud. Up to now though I've been happy with them, just not...
Re: Well I tried to be normal, but.... I'm back ;)That would only be a problem if you were towing with it, it's a recovery point not a tow bar so therefore doesn't need type approval.
That said, if you were to tow with it, do you think anyone would know (or care) that it wasn't type approved ?
Re: Well I tried to be normal, but.... I'm back ;)Welcome back ! :) Disco 2 is a good option, especially a TD5 Auto. The longer overhang at the back can be a bit of a liability and, having seen what Brendan did to his, rerouting the exhaust at the back is probably a priority ! I think there are a couple of Disco 2s in the pipeline already for club ...
Re: Can't see the members area ?There is no Rothwell event at the end of the month, we've booked Brotherton instead - Rothwell wanted too much money so we had to switch venues.
Re: Handbrake binding at pointsI can't think of much that would cause that, maybe the bearing in the output housing. You'd expect it to be leaking oil if it was that bad. I suspect it might be that you're not getting enough throw on the handbrake linkage, perhaps the mechanism in the drum needs stripping, cleaning and lubricating...
Re: Sandladders vs Waffleboards vs ....Waffle boards will allow some bridging, especially when used in multiples, back in the day when we ran teams in challenges we used to carry 3 on each vehicle because you can bridge pretty much anything with 3 waffle boards per wheel. They're not perfect as they can bend quite a lot but ok for small ...
Re: Defender rear tailpipe sectionIf you want to make one up yourself, I use Jetex for the parts: http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/jetexcustomexhaustparts.php Stainless or mild in any normal diameter, just work out what bends you need and how much straight. Each component comes with a socket at one end so they just push together. I no...
It's worth noting (especially when looking for a replacement) that the number stamped on the transfer box isn't a reliable indicator of the actual ratio. There are a fair number of boxes that have had ratios changed since they left the factory - a lot of TD5 Defenders had their ratios changed to 1.2...
Change to 1.4 without any doubt, maybe a 1.2 (your current box) will work but with your tyres 1.4 will be better. If you come across a 1.6 I think that'll work even better for you but 1.4 are much easier to get hold of. The 1.2 you have only works well with 205/16 tyres, any bigger than that and the...
Tax Disks and MOTsFollowing discussion at Helmsley and the August club night we expect to change our scrutineering to reflect government changes to tax and MOTs. From October tax disks will no longer be issued and the only way to verify if a vehicle is taxed is via the new DVLA web site facility. A few years ago the ...
There is a school of thought that the last thing you want to do, particularly with a high mileage box, is change the oil and filter. As the clutch plates wear they cause a build up of sludge in the gearbox and by flushing the oil all you end up doing is encouraging the sludge to migrate to the valve...
