Defender Auto-Box Swap
All I'm looking at moving to an auto box for Kermit. Couple of questions: 1. If I get an auto box from a defender (as opposed to a disco), is it a straight swap and can I still use the original transfer box? 2. Do I need to do any modifications to the bulkhead/tunnel to accomodate the auto set up? I...

Fuel Gauge
One of the jobs I didn't get round to sorting before the first trial was the fuel gauge. It sits firmly on empty, doesn't move at all when the ignition comes on and doesn't even move when I connect the two 'feed' wires together on the top of the tank (there's an earth wire to the tank also). Any tho...

Diff
Got the rear diff swapped today, nice & quiet now (well as quiet as a land rover gets!). Also got it taxed (£215) - it's still down as a 2.25 petrol on the V5 but I'm not sure whether it would be any more for a 2.5 Tdi. I'm going to get the V5 changed anyway so I guess I'll see next year. Insur...

MOT
:( :( :( :( :( Not good, few bits of stuff to fix: Warning lights for fog lamp and hazard lights; Problem with the headlights, might be bulbs in upside down; Bonnet retaining device ineffective (well it would be 'cos I took it off - didn't know you needed it with the bonnet pins); Main problem is th...

MOT
Got back from t'Egypt at about 3:30 this morning and had Kermit down at the local MOT garage for 8:00. Pacing up and down like an expectant father now waiting for news !!!!! On the run down to the garage I've (unfortunately) confirmed that the rear diff is shot - it's fine under load but as soon as ...

Couldn't get it booked in before this Saturday and we're off to t'Egypt on Sunday for a week so it's booked in for the day we get back - 4th April. Bit closer to the date of the trial than I'd have liked but still got a bit of 'float' just in case.
Cheers

reverse switch
Phil
Yea, that's how I tested it. Ordered one from your digital girlfriend last night, only £4.85 - think that's the cheapest new part I've bought during the whole re-build !

Ready for MOT
Yes, the day has finally arrived when I'm ready for the MOT. Finished sorting the lights this weekend, only one not working is the reversing light and it looks like it's the switch that screws into the the gearbox that's faulty but I don't believe then reversing light is part of the MOT (unless some...

Dave Yes, the roll cage is on but it looks like the hinges will line up. The plastic bushes are VERY tight once you knock them into the bulkhead part of the hinge, indeed I broke one of them trying to turn it with a screwdriver when it was in place. If you're goin to be be passing on your way back f...

Bonnet Hinge Bushes
All Having a nightmare trying to get the bonnet to fit into the hard plastic bushes in the bulkhead part of the hinge. I've tried chamfering both the bush and the metal hinge on the bonnet but even with the bonnet off, the bush is a very tight fit. Has anyone got experience of this and hopefully a s...
