Down pipe to be changed with a none CAT version (sat in garage) P gasket leaking slightly - Done front prop sliding joint a bit loose (and UJs once a year without fail Sad ) rear stub axle has pitting on the hub seal face, needs replacing to stop hub seal failure every few K miles. - stopped leaking...

nope - he meant diameter. although width does come into play as well on extremely wide tyres. But as most peeps use 235, 255 or 265 width the difference is only an inch (ish). Having larger shoulder lugs on aggressive muds can make up more than an inch anyway... so unless you go for daft widths ther...

here you go Leeds - had a dig around on difflock, as it was discussed recently and a nice diagram was made to explain it, see attached; it shows the center point of the wheel and the nave in relation to the center point. The thick black line is the outer face - so you can see which stick out further...

i know it doesnt help - but are you sure its heater plug related? both my wifes old 200tdi disco and my 300tdi defender have never needed the glow plugs to start first crank of the engine, even in deepest coldest winter. The disco would catch on possibly the second revolution of the engine if it was...
