Richard......the bolt spacings on the Nato hitch is 85mm across and 35mm top to bottom (from center of bolt holes to center of bolt holes). I am using M10 x 80 12.9 grade allen bolt. from the photos of where the belt sits....you are safe......so it seems it's a one off issue that only my disco suffered......was really confident I did a good job, until my timing belt snapped.......(Matthew might want to bring out the occasion where I mixed up the fuel banjo bolt on the injection ...

Kinsom , take it all apart again , smear the o ring with grease, fit it onto the crank and put back together again, if you don't your front timing belt cover will slowly become coated with oil and it'll perish the belt, back to square one again. woohoo....disco back on the road.... tried numerous times to get the crank sprocket seated in with the O rig, but always 2mm out.....so decided to go without the O ring, and it went in perfect......so final damage count......changed 8 push rods, 1 rocker arm, and 1 new timing belt...think i got off ...

Re: Diff guards, bearings and rear disks
Can anyone recommend the following parts for my Defender, and a supplier if possible please. Diff guards, the round ones seem cheap but I have seen them get pulled off when being recovered backwards, slider tpes any better ? the round ones are fine. If bolted down properly, they'll stay there. Mine...

Richard, I never did use a dial type gauge to fit a timing belt. So, might be of use to borrow Dave's dial gauge if you wish. I normally first loosen the timing belt tensioner, then loosen the injection pump sprocket and remove old belt. Then when fitting new timing belt, first tighten tensioner (wi...
