Don't be too afraid of winches with knackered motors as long as the drums not seized and it is cheap enough. I bought my warn with a seized motor and swapped the standard one for the Bowmotor giving a usable increase in pulling power and the ability to 24v for rapid spooling. http://www.dborc.co.uk/...

The cable on a 300 disco is really easy to change. Buy a new one so you can see what the ends look like then find the split pin at fuel pump end and take it out, remove the pin and the end of the cable will be free. Pull the large plastic adjuster nut free and that is the engine end disconnected. In...

In the last 10 years, we have had two Freeloader's, a SAAB and a couple of Volvo's (oh and a Mondeo but we don't talk about that). All we new and none had mudflaps fitted. Just looking at getting another new Freeloader and they are not even an option! I sugest that (I assume) young man was talking o...

Tow Bar electrics
I need to fit a tow bar to the Freeloader (2011) so Chelsea can do her trailer test, towbar is very reasonable at around £100 for Witter but main stealer prices for electrics kit are a bit steep @ £300 plus £55 to turn it on and that is if I fit it myself. Britpart is £200 plus switch on fee. Ha...

I've done this twice now, earth spike kits are available from Screwfix. In my old terrace house I fitted one in the cellar and connected it back to the earth in the board. In this one I knocked it in under the floor and earthed the indeed side of the stopcock. It's not really needed but better safe ...

Only an American could have a welder called a Power Fist and then go on to say "there's no fist like a power fist"
I'm off to crack up the welder and book an appointment in A&E.

As a farther myself, can I make a few observations? When kids are young, the cry all the time and when they aren’t there making a stink. As they turn in to teenagers, they don't want to be in the same space as a grown up and once they are 16 you don't ever see them or have a clue where they are un...
