Disco drop arm
Nick - I'm going down the disco drop arm route myself during the rebuild and ordered one from Paddocks but unlike the old defender one I took off, this disco one is a lot straighter ie. not as 'cranked', thereby making the drag link more 'angled'. I suspect there may be two types and the Paddocks we...

Alumimium protection
what's the best way of protecting the underneath of the tub from corrosion? I'm ok with the steel parts but what about the alumimium panels?

Right - following advice from a number of people I managed to cut the bottoms of the door pillars and removed the remains of the old feet, then fixed the new feet to the outriggers and slotted the bulkhead on. I've also re-fitted the front wings to make sure the front alignment is OK and I'll put th...

Bo/Matthew I'm fine with the vertical aligment using the wings but a bit confused about the height stuff. See pictures below, but the 'height' of the bulkhead is effectively set by how far the 'feet' go up inside the bulkhead (door pillar leg) itself eg. the less of the foot goes into the bulkhead t...

Bo See pictures below. The door pillars on the bulkhead are in good condition (rot wise) and the only reason I'm replacing the bottom bit of them is 'cos the remains of the old feet are still welded inside them. I take the point re welding it together in situ (I take it you mean bolt the feet to the...

More bulkhead trauma !
So I've got the bulkhead all welded up and solid, painted the new bottom feet that fix the bulkhead to the outrigger and just about ready to pop the bulkhead back on when............... ...............although the old 'feet' had pretty much rotted away, the top parts (that slides into the bulkhead) ...

Diff
Spent last night re-building the handbrake assembly with new shoes and also fitted the rear prop-shaft. Whilst fitting the prop I noticed that there was a lot of play in the main diff pinion not only in terms of rotation (which I might have expected) but also side to side and front to back. Indeed w...

Few smaller jobs today: Fitted front propshaft; Stripped, cleaned & rebuilt handbrake assembly (needs some new shoes); Re-wrapped main front to rear wiring loom in preparation for re-threading through chassis; Went round and gave all the exposed bolt threads a coat of waxoyl; If my bits come fro...

Well thanks to great advice from you guys on the forum and some bits of kit from Kingson and Richard, the timing belt is changed and everything is re-assembled - and I don't even have any bits left over :D Guess we were all newbies at some stage and like most jobs, once you've done it the first time...

TDC
Got the timing cover off and just setting up to start removing the timing belt. Need to lock the engine at TDC before I start and 'alledgedly' TDC is achieved when you can pass a 3/8ths bar all the way through the hole in the injector pump pulley, however this doesn't allow the TDC mark on the camsh...
