Matthew - sorry I didn't get in touch about the mounting plate - I had to change my pump into Rod's tank and so have been held up a bit until I can get a gasket... Interestingly, according to the drawing in my official RR Workshop manual (biggest waste of space on my bookshelf) there is no support p...

Many thanks for the replies :) Rod - yours looks fine to me, how much do you want for it? Matthew - thanks but it's easier to go with Rod's offer. Dave - I haven't got a protector plate (I always thought that the standard one looked a bit flimsy anyway) - I'll keep my eye out for one (or maybe just ...

RRC EFI Multi-vent fuel tank replacement - what's best?...
My tank is pretty rusty and although it doesn't leak, the mounting flanges are well corroded and I am thinking of replacing it. So-o-o-o... Paddocks do a bare tank at £76 and I was thinking of transferring my pump and sender unit to one of those. But: The sender unit looks like it could be a bit of ...

I am really enjoying reading this - I just don't know how you manage to get so much done in such a short time! Well impressed :) (For comparison - yesterday I got four hours in and managed to weld up a few holes that I discovered when fitting the new body cross-member :? ) Looking forward to the pic...

One of the problems I've found when fitting the rear x-member if you try to mount it on the chassis mounts first using new bushes, nothing lines up. Fit the old bushes temporarily as all of the others will have sagged and bolt it to the chassis. Then fit the lower tail gate close it up and tack the...

Now you see why people end up bob tailing them... less bits to rot :) It is a bitch of a job though, a mate of mine had his done a few years back by a local garage (not a Land Rover specialist) and it took them 4 days work (charged by the hour), when he got it back he could no longer open the lower...

when we did the orange rover's cross member , we only cut out the rotten bit's and then cut the new cross member into shape n fitted it. saving abit of time n hassle. still a crappy job to do. martin Nice idea - would have saved cutting chunks out of the floor to get it in - but unfortunatel...

Been reading Dave's build thread with eager interest.. The transfer box adaptor arrived this week ... A whole day spent fitting the transfer box I sympathize! I spent a whole day cutting this out: http://www.rogerwatkinson.com/Crossmember.jpg and then cleaning/prepping for the replacement. Finally f...

if you were a real anorak you'd drive to the event on road tyres and bring your set of trials tyres with you , different tread/sizes dependent on weather, time of year and site we were using . You might even be called Lewis or Sebastian but you'd still have to leave the 500k transporter/support tru...

Just as a point of interest, I was pointed out something on another forum about tyre legalities which I didn't know (they were pulled over and cautioned). If a vehicle ways less than 2.5t kerbside weight, you cannot have more than 8mm of tread. So 10, 12 and 20mm tread depth on certain MT's are not...

On a steering note, I recently had a 'steering fault', it felt as if the power steering was weak. I also had a binding transmission brake which I have now sorted out. I now find that the steering is back to normal. Would the transmission brake be working similar to the centre diff thus changing the...

Re: Heater / Glow plugs
This isn't going to answer your question I'm afraid, but might help with the starting... I have a Pug 406 for my sins and it is reluctant to start if I follow 'normal' starting practice (ie, if I turn it over as soon as the heater light goes out) and my thoughts went something like this: 1. Battery ...
