MSA launches its Manifesto for Motor Sport
The Motor Sports Association – governing body of UK motor sport – has unveiled a manifesto that will form the basis of the MSA's Public Affairs activity for this year. The manifesto highlights three key issues that the MSA will be looking to discuss with government during 2010 at private meetings, high profile events and the party conferences in the autumn.
The three issues for discussion are closed road events; planning laws; and motor sport as an environmental test bed.
The MSA is now calling on its 50,000 members to sign an online petition to support the call for Closed Road events on mainland Britain without the need to resort to an Act of Parliament to suspend the Road Traffic Act at http://www.petition.co.uk/MSA.
The manifesto has been launched publicly in order to provide guidance and information for those members of the motor sport community who may wish to discuss the sport with Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs) in the forthcoming general election campaign.
The MSA manifesto is available online at www.msauk.org/manifesto along with a draft letter that can be downloaded and sent to PPCs or MPs to make the case for motor sport. Also available online are the combined manifestos from the other members of the Motorsport Alliance – the Auto-Cycle Union and the MIA – providing a consolidated guide to the needs of four- and two-wheeled motor sport and the associated industry.

“The MSA has made great strides in the past 18 months with its Public Affairs campaign, raising the profile of the sport and highlighting our development programmes to key ministers and shadows. The 2010 manifesto sets out our strategic priorities for the coming year, but can also be a useful tool for any of our members that might like to make the case for motor sport to their MPs and PPCs. We would particularly encourage everyone to demonstrate the level of support for closed road events by signing the petition at www.petition.co.uk/MSA.â€
