Fuel Gauge

Postby varleym » Tue Apr 12, 2011 7:06 pm

One of the jobs I didn't get round to sorting before the first trial was the fuel gauge. It sits firmly on empty, doesn't move at all when the ignition comes on and doesn't even move when I connect the two 'feed' wires together on the top of the tank (there's an earth wire to the tank also).

Any thoughts on fault finding and tracing the fault back to either the sender unit in the tank, the wiring or the gauge itself?

For info, it's an 'early' defender tank with the single hole for the sender/fuel pick-up unit.

Cheers

Mark

It shouldn't move when you connect the 2 wires together as 1 feeds the gauge and 1 feeds the low fuel warning light , you need to earth them in turn , 1 should make fuel gauge read full and 1 should bring a yellow light on on the dash.
