The list of things to do....

Postby nicks90 » Fri Jun 08, 2007 11:51 am

we all know the score - never in its 50 odd year history has anyone had a landrover that has been fault free, or needed a few odd jobs doing to get it A1 perfect.

So nows your chance to make that all important list of jobs that "you'll get round to eventually" on your landy!
then read back on the list and *#*#*#*# at your stupid vehicle.

Down pipe to be changed with a none CAT version (sat in garage)
P gasket leaking slightly
front prop sliding joint a bit loose (and UJs once a year without fail :( )
rear stub axle has pitting on the hub seal face, needs some liquid metal skimming on or replacing to stop hub seal failure every few K miles.
rear seat needs fitting so wife and baby can both have somewhere to sit.
rear wiper motor needs replacing (never use it which is why it probably died)
front diff pinion oil seal leaking, could be a blocked breather
build a new bumper to fit around winch mount, preferably one that aint made of tinfoil like LR standard bumpers.
refit winch
replace plastic light surround on wing, after hitting a tree.
replace a wheel arch spat - see above tree (sat in garage)

thats all for now. Luckily none are major, just getting round to it thats the problem and having the odd oil spot on the drive.........

what needs doing to yours?

Nick

Mine, seems to be growing faster than I can deal with it...

Fit new engine and gearbox
Manufacture new exhaust
Make new propshafts
Get above to run and find out what mpg it gets
Design new fuel tank to meet 500Km range needed given above mpg
Replace rear cross member with winch version
Fill hole left behind the seats where the winch sits now
Make spare wheel mount in rear tub to stand wheel up
Make new storage boxes in the back tub
Fit second shock absorbers to rear axle
Fit hydraulic bump stops to all corners
Fit 3rd battery and second alternator
Repair rear winch
Finish off navigation PC and mount in vehicle
Replace all half shafts/CVs/drive flanges/diffs with 24 spline versions
Decide on and fit new challenge tyres and wheels
Make a snorkel to suit new engine
Repaint entire vehicle with new colour scheme

Sure I forgot something, thankfully I have until October to get it all done so that's OK :-)

Well at least you'll be ok with more than 8mm of tread depth by the time you have fitted that lot! ;)

List of things to do

Postby Graeme C. » Fri Jun 15, 2007 10:23 pm

I ended up missing Great Ayton trying to reduce my 'to do' list on the Series 3,
Replace all 4 springs & shocks.
Replace O/S free wheel hub
Service brakes Replace rear brake shoes.
Grease props & check oil levels all round.
Clean & Paint axles.
Replace clutch flexi hose.

As if all that wasn't enough, while I was there I found there was more to do....
Replace O/S/F hub seal.
Replace rear wheel cylinders,
Replace rear brake flexi pipe & T piece.

And I still have to;
Replace the front indicators & sidelights.
Fit new wipers blades.
Clean out the handbrake drum.
Sort out my parts store/scrap heap (depends on your point of view).
Remove the old tyres from the LWB rims.

Thats it for now, unless theres something I've forgotten

My 'to do list' got a whole lot longer just after Great Ayton, but as Wayne pointed, out it will never get shorter whilst I dont keep up with a regular maintenence routine!! Benjamin has taken all that spare time up!!
Cheers Nick

5/4 of people admit that they’re bad with fractions.
