front radius arm brackets

hi folks,

just recently replaced the bushes on the front radius arms and noticed one of the bolt holes in the axle bracket had ovalised slightly.
didnt think too much about it and just did the bolts up nice and tight.

but on speed bumps there is a squeak and sure enough when you look under the motor and pry that particular bush, you can see the bolt move in the hole slightly.

i;ve heard of people welding a thick tight fitting washer to the bracket to solve this problem, but I have no idea what size washer is needed for such a big bolt! Does anyone know what size i need to be ordering?

Cheers, but just seems a bit excessive for one ovalised hole.

Can you run a bead of weld in to the oval and dress it back with a round file and special tool number three? (angle grinder).

Just checked the size on some new bolts I have in the shed, they are M16 so maybe a thick repair washer welded in situ?

M16, many thanks. Will be able to get shank thickness and find a suitable washer from that

Or if your stuck for a washer use some plate and drill a hole in it?

that was my first idea - but unfortunately i dont have a drill bit that big!

I have several, a few blacksmiths HSS bits and a couple of step drill bits, your welcome to use if you fancy nipping over matey.

Hi Nick, I've got a bench drill, 17mm & 18mm HSS drill bits, some 2mm, 3mm plates and a welder....am not far from you at Batley/Birstall. You are welcome to drop by and use them.

M16 washer, prob best being either c or e form- as these are slightly wider.
stick under bolt head or nut then weld washer to axle bracket. with the weight of motor on the bolt it should be in the right position.
If your struggling to find c/e form washers give us a shout and i'll get some over to you.
