winch wire

Postby Jabba » Mon Jul 22, 2013 5:47 pm

I'm hoping to get my winch fitted in the next couple of days. It's 2nd hand with a wire rope and I'm wondering what the best way to wind it on/layer it is?
It's pretty tidy anyway but I'm sure I'll want to play :)

Dave

I have a brand new wire rope I can let you have for a number of beer tokens, would be safer  (rope would be safer still!!!)

Don't do wire rope as both my and winch bitches body parts are more important than the money saved not using dyneema/plasma/h8/etc.

I'm keeping my eyes open for 2nd hand rope to replace the wire. It'll just have to do for now though aqs I can't quite stretch to the cost of a new one

So, if I'm looking for a synthetic rope for the winch, what should I look for? It's a TDS 9.5.

10mm, 11mm, 12mm??
Secondhand or new?
Is a 2nd hand bow rope better than a new tmax (or similar) rope?

Dave

In my view (which is of course very subjective!) - 11mm should be ample. If it's just for very occaisional use then as long as there's no obvious damage to the rope, a 2nd hand one should do fine if you can get one for the right money. Alternatively you could always wait for Santa to bring you a nice shiney new one :D

I would definately ditch the wire rope.

Cheers

Mark
