discovery sidelights

Postby nicks90 » Wed Jul 08, 2009 9:00 am

hello folks,

yet again the helectrikery of the disco 2 confuddles me!

just had the disco MOT'd and got an advisory that the front sidelights dont work. He`s checked the bulbs and they were fine and couldnt find any of the fuses in the box that relate to the side lights, so he was a bit stuck on what might be causing no sidelights at the front. (work fine on the back).
however he did notice that 2 fuses had blown - but nothing seems to be amiss though, very strange. There was a 40amp fuse that had the icon of a radiator with a fan in front of it :?: - but the disco has a viscous fan. and one of the fuses that has the icon of a book had blown too.
he`s replaced both fuses, but nothing seems different to before, so no idea what those fuses do. But the front sidelights still dont work.

Anyone have any idea what might be causing the front sidelights to not work and / or have a list of what each fuse does?

cheers
Nick (i aint no electrician) Clayton

Have you checked both fuse boxes ?
Is it just the front lights ?

The sidelights go through both fuse boxes. Under the bonnet they go through link 12 (30A) and then they split left and right in the internal fuse box after the switch. (fuses 11 and 33)

For it to effect both front sidelights without effecting the rear tail lights would be very odd. If the tail lights are OK it's not the fuses. The sidelamp circuits are split left and right, not front to rear so if a fuse had blown you'd lose either lh front and rear or rh front and rear.

I'd start by checking the wiring is actually connected to the light units and work back from there...

I've attached a pdf of the wiring diagram.

I'd like to know which MOT station gave you an advise for non working sidelights as it should be a fail, will be and a fine if you get stopped by pcplod, anyway let us all know and then we know where to take dodgy motors for a test.
