200 TDi Intercooler

Postby varleym » Sun May 30, 2010 5:18 pm

Quick question - I've removed the intercooler from the 200TDi defender that I'm rebuilding and it's got a fair coating of oil on the inner surfaces. There's no actual oil in the unit and the coating that is in it is sticky rather than slippy.

Is this OK and should I just wash it through with petrol of something similar or might it be terminally clogged?

Cheers

Mark

Every one I have owned has had some residue inside. I have cleaned them out but have used degreaser. I think the manual suggests this so is common practice. Not sure it does owt mind.

Cheers Nick

Oil in the cooler is quite normal.as long as theres not lots of it.If it was blocked it would more than likely blow a pipe off or burst one,If ya want to clean it out pour some engine flush in it and give it a swill around, but it sounds perfectly normal to me.
do you know the meaning of Nemesis ???
