Axle Identification
Axle Identification
As my motor is a bit of a 'bitza' I'm not sure what front axle I have.
The brake caliper is the pin type not the spring type but that is where my knowledge ends. Is there any other outward signs to give me more information. I need to replce the CV's and possibly the diff.
How can I tell how many splines it has.
Can you tell without taking hub apart which CV's to buy.
Cheers Nick

If it ain't broke, I'd be bloody suprised.
sorry for my last - should have said they all have 24 splines at the drive flange........
my bad
AEU2522 - 23/24 wide pre' 200TDI 10 spline diff
RTC6862 - 32/24 wide 200TDI 24 spline diff
TDJ000010 - 32/24 narrow 300TDI til current. 24 spline diff
easiest way to tell is the drive flange itself. If its a big beefy wide flat affair - then its an early 24 spline RTC6862 or 10 spline AEU2522.
if its a more fine looking moulded flange like this - then its TDJ part
just thought, if its the later style thin cv they should be the same as the ones in your disco, as i think your disco was a 300tdi.... in which case you can use them. part numbers for disco, rangie and defender narrow CVs are all TDJ000010

Bugger!
Another bloody dent...

depends if them there radius arm bolts come out.
i ended up cutting 3 of the 4 bolts to get my arms off the front axle when i rebushed it. 2 of those then needed a bar welding to the bolt head so i could give them some wollop with tool no.1 to get em out.
major pain in the proverbial.
