Testing turbo boost and fueling

Postby Jabba » Fri Oct 01, 2010 2:34 pm

I want to check the turbo boost and the fueling on my 200tdi.

It doesn't seem to smoke so I don't think it's over fueling, and it stops straight off when I turn the ignition off so the injectors don't seem to be worn. I set the injection timing when I replaced the timing belt earlier this year.

I think it is lacking in power at higher revs and certainly struggles on even gentle hills in 5th. Low down grunt seems to be OK.

One other thing is that the temp gauge rarely gets past the bottom of the white section - not sure if this is normal or indicating that it is running cool?

I know I'll need a boost gauge (any recommendations on where/what to get) but not sure how I can check the fueling.
I'm happy to get someone else to check/set it up if anyone has any recommendations?

Cheers.

Bring it round and I'll give it a tweak, sounds like pump and boost set to standard.

Matthew, Thanks for tweaking the fueling and turbo. It drives a load better now. I'm sure that armed with the modicum of knowledge I now have, I can continue to tweak and refine until I still haven't got it right or I destroy the engine

Does anyone remember that anoying farmer bloke on scrapheap challenge, he had a bit of trouble with a rather large engine and a fuel pump

Not sure why I suddenly thought of that.

Cheers Nick
