What size are my nuts

Postby tecnick » Wed Oct 13, 2010 7:12 pm

Going to start the re-bushing of the 90 at the weekend. Does any one know what size spanner I need for the radius and trailing arms.

Cheers Nick
If it ain't broke, I'd be bloody suprised.

You won't be trialling on Sunday then , 17,22,24,29mm should cover it I think.

If I were you Nick I'd try slackening and moving the four front and two rear radius arm nuts/bolts to make sure they look like they're free of the centres. If not then you'll end up having to cut them out and it's a LOT simpler to have the replacement nuts and bolts bought before you start the job proper !

Would agree with Dave on this. When I stripped my motor down, although I could get the nuts undone I couldn't get the bolts out as they were stuck fast in the bushes - even with copious amounts of LR tool No 1. I had to grind/hacksaw the bolts to remove the trailing/radius arms from the axles with the rest of the bolt still in the bush. Took them to a local engineering firm to press the old bushes out and the new (Superpro) ones in.

Just a point on the Superpro bushes, the trailing arm bushes are the only split/two piece ones, the rest are one piece. I managed to fit the bushes in everything but the front radius arms (A-Frame, panhard rod, etc) myself just using a vice but as the radius arms are so numb and heavy you either need someone to help you or ideally take it to someone with a hydraulic press.

Cheers

Mark

You can put the SuperPro (or any of the poly bushes) in very easily using a length of threaded bar, two big washers or pieces of plate and a couple of nuts.

That's one nut to hold the radius arm and one to hit it with a big hammer

Did it on the Disco and had no problems. My nuts were really greasy and only used the grinder twice

RE: "How big are my nuts"
Answer: Not as big as after you have undone the large radius arm fixings.
