What is it????

Postby Jabba » Mon Nov 01, 2010 7:16 pm

Been stripping the wings off today to get at the bulkhead and found an electrical widget fixed to the inner wing on the drivers side. It looks like a ballast resitor type of thing.

Any idea what it is?

The wires to it are all corroded away so it's not working anyway, but I'd like to know what it is and if it would be helpful to have it working (maybe it would make something else work/work better).

No piccy (yet) as it is fixed between the outer wing and the inner stiffener panel and I've only taken the wing tops off. I'll see if I can undo it tomorrow and get a pic. It looks like an ally block with fins on the outside, sort of a long rectangular block.
I can't find any mention in the Haynes (no surprise) or see anything in the LR parts list. The Haynes wiring diag doesn't even show the colour wires (Brown/Green and Brown) that go to it.

No. The one one mine is longer and thinner although I did wonder if it was part of the dim/dip setup. I think the dim/dip works too so as the wires are gone, that wouldn't be it.

Got the bit out today. Part number XBL10003. Turns out it is the dim/dip resistor. Craddocks list it as 'RESISTOR DIM DIP AND GLOW PLUG TIMER' so I do wonder if it has anything to do with the glow plugs.
I'll have to wait until I've got it all back together to see if it gets any voltage across the feed when the glow plugs are on (not bothered about dim/dip as I don't use sidelights any way)
