The
Yorkshire Off Road Club is a friendly, social and competitive
motor sport club that organises and promotes off road driving events
for all makes of 4x4. We cater solely for road going vehicles and offer
advice and training both in driving and preparation of vehicles.
We welcome and cater for all makes of 4x4 including the ubiquitous Land
Rover products with Series, Defenders, Discoverys and Range Rovers taking
part alongside Jeeps, Suzukis and Foers Ibex, among others. Our trials events
offer a
relaxed and friendly way to take part in motor sport with your own vehicle. (Often referred to as RTV trials)
Novice
drivers are given help and guidance and we have an optional mentor facility
that allows an experienced driver to sit in with you while you explore the
capabilities of your vehicle in a controlled environment.
You don't need to be a member to attend our events and there is no charge for
entry for spectators so why not come along and take a look. Details of our events are available
in the future events section with directions and maps posted prior to the event
running. If you would like to take part in green lane trips, these are organised
through
the member's area of the club forum and at club nights.
Yorkshire Off Road Club is an MSA Recognised club, all our motor sport events
are run under an MSA permit providing insurance cover for all those taking
part.
Our off road competitions take place on private land with the permission of
the land owner.
If you'd like further information about the club and it's activities or how to get started in recreational and competitive off road 4x4 driving, feel free to contact us using the details provided here or come along to one of our club nights or events.
Yorkshire Land Rover Club
The Yorkshire Off Road Club also incorporates the Yorkshire Land Rover Club. The club is not a single marque club although the majority of members do own and compete in Land Rover based vehicles. We are not a member of the Association of Land Rover Clubs but, instead, are an MSA Recognised Club. This allows the club to run fully insured and sanctioned off road motorsport events in the UK. This also gives us the freedom to choose our own destiny including allowing 4x4s of all makes to take part in our off road competitions.
Trials Events
The majority of the events we run in Yorkshire are Off Road Trial events. These events are designed and set out to allow road legal off road 4x4s to compete whilst still being able to drive the vehicle home again at the end of the day. The sections are intended to be none damaging and, are at a similar level to those termed as "RTV" or Road taxed vehicle trials by the Association of Land Rover Clubs. We hold trials events throughout North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire and have even been known to venture into Lancashire, Northumberland and Cumbria.
Winch Challenge Events
In recent years winch challenge events have seen a rise in popularity and frequency and the club has been at the forefront of moving 4x4 winch challenge events into the mainstream of UK motor sport. In line with our philosophy of allowing road going daily driver 4x4s to compete in our events, the club has held an annual punch and navigation challenge since 2001. The club is also involved with more extreme winch challenge events, playing a mjor role in promoting the Muddy Truckers Challenge and having members competing throughout the world in prestigious 4x4 winch challenges.
Vehicles
We are, by habit, a Land Rover club however we have a number of other marques competing with Suzuki Jimny's, Suzuki Vitaras, Suzuki SJs regularly competing together with the occasional Jeep and Vauxhall Frontera. We have a simple class system that allows for fair and even competition regardless of the vehicle you choose to enter. Providing your 4x4 vehicle is taxed/tested you should be able to compete in one of our events.
Social Gatherings
An important aspect of the club are the social gatherings. Once a month we hold an informal meet at a pub in Yorkshire where members can meet and have a few beers. The meeting also gives club organisers and members the chance to make announcements, put forward suggestions and ask questions. All Yorkshire Off Road Club members have the opportubity to determine the direction of the club and the events we run.
Where possible and weather allowing we try to provide a camping/caravanning facility alongside all our off road events. Normally we will find somewhere that has at least basic amenities. The club provides a barbecue and marquee for these events turning our off road competitions and events into a friendly, social, weekend rally.
A family friendly off road club
Over the years many of our members have grown up with the club and gone from sitting next to mum/dad to competing in their own right. Families including young children are always welcome at our events and we will try to accommodate their needs and safety both during competition and at social events.
Green Laning
Members organise informal green laning days and weekends via the club forum. These can take place anywheer in the UK with recent green laning trips to Wales, the Lake District, the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. With green laning continually under threat from those who have no tolerance of other rights of way users the Yorkshire Off Road Club continues to support the rights of all users of our rights of way system and supports a tread lightly approach to green laning in the UK.
